Special Feature: Culinary Travel

Barbara Gulino

Certain she could both talk and cook up a storm at the same time; Maine resident Barbara Gulino (barbara@barbaragulino.com) began her career as a cooking teacher 18 years ago with her business, Cooking From Camp Chaos®, Maine.  Her diverse background and unabashed enthusiasm for cooking, writing, marketing and public speaking proved beneficial, thus earning her the moniker, The Spirited Cook®.  Barbara energetically teaches creatively prepared cuisine while emphasizing local foods and products.  Organizing local food tours, she takes pride in connecting consumer, farmer and chef.  For 2 years now, Barbara creates and appears in bi-monthly cooking segments for the WCSH6 Morning Report, an NBC affiliate in Maine and New Hampshire.  The past 3 annual conferences in Baltimore, Dallas and Seattle for the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) have allowed her to present a highly successful Speed Networking workshop along with another IACP member, Jackie Gordon.  Her interest in networking continues through the IACP Food Writing and Publishing section, where Barbara serves as committee chair for the Information Resources Network.  Currently, Barbara is writing a cookbook about Maine, and is a recipient of the Linda D. Russo Travel Grant from the IACP and James Beard Foundations.  Barbara writes an informative and free newsletter on food and cooking in Maine and beyond for a dedicated list of subscribers through her Web site.   The fall of 2006 will bring a new venture much anticipated by her cooking students—cooking classes, both demonstration and participatory in her newly remodeled and roomy kitchen on the coast of Maine.  Visit her at:  www.barbaragulino.com
