Mars Inc., maker of Milky Way, Snickers and M&M’s candies, plans to launch CocoaVia nationwide next month. This is a new product made with a dark chocolate that the company claims has health benefits. CocoaVia is made with a kind of dark chocolate high in flavanols, an antioxidant found in cocoa beans that is thought to have a blood-thinning effect similar to aspirin and may even lower blood pressure.

Pioneering chef and author Edna Lewis died at the age of 89 on February 13, 2006. Her culinary career spanned more than seventy years.  It included experiences at the country’s most popular eateries, the publication of four cookbooks, and her personal legacy of preserving the flavors and traditions of the South. Born in 1916 in Freetown, Virginia, Lewis lived in Atlanta, GA.

New to the US market in 2005, Tropical Dragon fruit has green scales, bold magenta skin and a juicy interior flesh that ranges from pale pink to magenta and dotted with tiny black seeds, similar to a kiwi. Originally from Central America, this fruit, a species of cactus, is now grown in San Diego, CA.
