Izzy's is a clubby, masculine feel saloon-style chop house in the Marina District. This 10 year old restaurant is named after Izzy Gomez, who operated a speakeasy during Prohibition. Although Izzy's offers seafood and chicken, beef is king here! The house specialty is the 16 ounce New York Strip Steak, dry aged 21 days ($19.95). Other beef choices are filets; New York sirloin au poivre with cracked pepper, cream and brandy; steak kekbob with sauteed mushrooms; blackened filet; marinated shirt steak; and hamburger steak.

If you are in the mood for chop house offerings, your choices are veal chops, pork chops or lamb chops.

Each dinner entree comes with two side offerings. The house specials are the creamed spinach and Izzy's own potatoes, a popular au gratin dish. Both are well worth the calories. But you won't go wrong with either the shoe string potatoes, baked potato, roasted onion and carrots or the steamed broccoli.

If you have room, desserts are good and basic chop house fare: New York style cheesecake, key lime pie, chocolate mousse, creme brulee and strawberries with Grand Marnier sauce.
