Special Feature: Products Sally Recommends

pairing your food with your activity

Whether you have a big workout planned or a trip to the casino planned, there are different ways you should plan your diet depending on your activity. Your body will need less energy, and food, if you are working at a computer all day than if you are running a marathon.

Start by looking over this casino food guide by Planet 7. Vacations and special events at the casino are not necessarily the time to worry about staying on your diet, but you do not want to consume anything that is going to ruin your mood or cause you to end your night or your trip short before you were ready.

Consider how you’ll be spending your day and what your activity level will be, and then you can plan your meals accordingly. The number one thing to remember is that the food you eat is the fuel for your body no matter what your activity is. Treat your body with the right fuel and you will feel better and perform better.

What Food You Should Eat at the Casino

Planning a big trip to a casino, and wondering exactly what to eat and how to keep your diet on track? Let’s look at how to match your food with your activities, so that you are eating the right foods when you go to the casino.

What you should eat at the casino should be similar to what you normally eat. While vacations can seem like a time to indulge, overdoing it can make you feel sick and ruin your trip. If you eat mostly vegetables, then you should try to stick to that on your trip.

The other thing to consider is if you will be drinking. Many casino nights are filled with some whiskey or beer, and if that’s the case, you want to make sure you have the right foods in your stomach. This would not be the time to stick to a green salad, as you will end up sick from the liquor.

When in Doubt, Stick to Your Normal Diet

With so many diets and lifestyles these days from the Standard American Diet to Paleo and Keto, most industries across the world can accommodate your regular diet. There are Gluten Free options on nearly every menu nowadays.

Buffets at casinos and at other special restaurants are somewhat famous, and you will have a plethora of food choices. But why risk eating something that might make you feel ill? While you cannot know exactly how the food was prepared, what oils or butter were used, you should  make sure you eat normally.

Whether you are at a casino or just taking your mate out to dinner, most restaurants will accommodate your regular diet, no matter what it is. If you are a vegetarian, you might not want to go to a steakhouse or rib joint, but even in that case, there are always salads on the menu. Don’t feel pressured into eating the house specialty if it doesn’t fit in with your normal diet.

If Drinking Alcohol, Consider Eating Fattier Foods with More Carbs

Pace yourself. Moderation is the key to life and drinking and eating at a casino certainly require moderation. While you might want to eat and drink everything in sight, take your time. Do not send your body into shock. If you normally have a glass of wine to wind down at the end of a workday, then stick to wine when you are at a party.

The exception might be what you eat while you are drinking. If you are planning to, or accidentally, overindulge in the drinking at a party or at a casino, which is easy to do, make sure you eat the right kinds of food. If you are not gluten-intolerant, this would be when you want to eat some pastas and breads. Put something in your stomach that can help break down what you are drinking. Feeling sluggish from the carbs is better than feeling drunk from the alcohol.

Don’t overlook the breakfast omelet. If you overdid it the night before, there is still hope for a smooth recovery. Get yourself an omelet, rich in proteins and vegetables, and a strong cup of coffee. Try not to let the bad food and drink decisions of the night before seep into making more bad decisions the next day.

Food as Fuel During a Workout

When you are working out, you need to fuel your body in a certain way. Think about protein bars, and sport drinks that replenish the salt you lose when you sweat. It’s also about when you eat. If you are preparing to run a half-marathon, you might want to carb load with pasta to gain energy. But you will want to have that meal many hours ahead of time so you are not running on a full stomach.

The Goal is to Stay Healthy

No matter what activity you are participating in, your diet should be considered fuel. You will need to eat different foods for a workout than you will working a day in an office building at a desk. Casinos can be a time of indulgence, and you might want to eat different foods. But, when you are trying to maximize the benefits of a good work out, you need to tailor your diet specifically for that. The overall goal is to be healthy and find out what works for your specific body and its needs.

Lastly, don’t overlook your water consumption. Whether drinking alcohol, trying new foods, or re-hydrating after a long run, water can and will be your secret weapon. Water will keep your body processing new foods and drinks quickly and efficiently, so if your body doesn’t like something you ate, you will be able to get it out of your system quickly. Drinking water and staying hydrated can be the key to a good vacation or a good workout.
