Elisabeth Castleman (culroots@aol.com), born and raised in the Northern Italian Austrian alpine region of Alto Adige (Suedtirol), studied marketing at the Austrian University of Vienna (Hochschule fuer Welthandel) as well as American Studies and English at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the United States. She also has worked several years at the United Nations in Vienna (Austria). 

Her culinary education began more than 30 years ago in Italy when she attended the Istituto Tecnico Femminile in Bolzano (Bozen), Italy. Her passions are food, spices, herbs, culinary history, travel and international ethnic cooking. For the past 15 years she has lived in the United States, and now resides in Frederick, Maryland. She is a professional Italian German English American cookbook translator and food writer.
