Lynne Gray
Husband and wife Keith Allan and Lynne Gray (keith@webcastproductions.co.uk) have worked together for more than thirty years as broadcasters and journalists.
Keith’s broadcasting career started in the seventies with BBC Radio Newcastle and he went on to work extensively for BBC Radio 4 on programmes like Today, The World at One, Woman’s Hour and The John Dunn Show.
He also presented a number of one-off programmes produced from Manchester and London including a series of programmes called In Keeping with Tradition as well as others about the oil industry and current affairs.
After a spell working in London for The World at One he was one of the first freelances to set up his own independent studio in order to work on radio features and programmes for broadcast throughout BBC Radio and BBC World Service.
In recent years he has also written about travel and property for the Financial Times, The Times, Daily Telegraph, House & Garden, Glasgow Herald, Sunday Herald and Scotland on Sunday. His latest interest is producing webcasts and podcasts for the internet, some of which you can hear in the Travel section of Sally’s Place.
Lynne was brought up in Brighton on the south coast of England and left home to study for a degree in microbiology at Newcastle University. She trained as a teacher and taught biology and physics before discovering the world of radio.
She also began her broadcasting career in the seventies with BBC Radio Newcastle and contributed to Woman’s Hour and other programmes on Radio 4 before leaving the BBC to start a family. Working closely together they developed their own independent studio which was very much ahead of its time in the UK.
Lynne also edited manuscripts for a publishing company they set up before returning to the world of journalism. She now enjoys photography and illustrates many of the articles that she and Keith write together. She also does most of the editing and mixing of the recordings that they gather on their various travels around the world.
Aside from their journalism the pair have their own antiques business, enjoy cooking and gardening, and have designed and built their own house. They live in Northumberland, close to the River Tweed, where they are able to practice one of their great loves, fly fishing for salmon.
