Ceramic Hob Or Induction Hob – Which One Suits Your Kitchen?

The heartbeat of your kitchen is your kitchen appliances. Various appliances are available in various styles. Selecting the right hob can prove vital for your family as well as your kitchen. It is indeed a challenging task to choose an induction or ceramic hob

There is a variety of factors one needs to check before selecting the hob. Understanding the speed at which we can cook can be one of those. At the same time, which one is safe among the two? Let us analyze the factors one by one and you do the selection.

Factors to Ponder

Method of Heating: The major difference between ceramic and induction hob lies in this factor. The induction hob heats through a process called electrical induction. That means to say, the copper coils that are at the bottom of the hob are responsible for producing the heat.

At the same time, ceramic hobs are heated using a conduction process. The heating elements are present at the bottom of the hob in the form of a ring. The ring heats up completely and heats the hob. This in turn produces the heat to the pan and from there to the food.

The scientific difference is, that the induction hob heats up only the base of the pan. Whereas, the entire hob gets heated up. This means to say, the other areas of the induction hob remain cool while cooking. But the ceramic hob is completely hot leaving it unsafe at times.

Duration to Cool Down:  If you are still wondering whether to choose ceramic or induction hob, this one shall help you decide. Induction hobs cool down relatively faster than ceramic ones. The obvious reason is the method by which the heating process happens. This makes the induction hob conducive, safe and easy to handle.

Budget:  One may feel induction hob is more expensive than ceramic hobs. This may be right on the price front. At the same time, ceramic hobs can cost you more on utility bills. Yes, induction hobs are energy efficient while the ceramic counterpart is not.

Faster Heating Technology: The clear winner is the induction hob. It not only heats up faster but also cools down quickly. While we say this, ceramic hobs are also faster in heating, but the cooling process is very slow. Further, the temperature control mechanism of the induction hob is far better than the ceramic hobs.

Safety: Both are safe to use. Especially, the light that shall indicate when the hob is on is a major safety factor. But, is that enough for a hob to consider it to be safe? Especially, when the kids are around. As we know, ceramic hobs take time to cool down, this can be one of the factors that shall influence your decision.

Be it ceramic hobs or induction hobs, you must decide on the requirement. Of course, induction hobs cannot work with non-ferrous pans or utensils. Also, ceramic hobs are a lot less expensive than its counterpart.
