what is the gambling capital of the world?

Las Vegas has been for decades the main attraction for gamblers who saw the thrills of land-based casinos. It is the first thing that comes to mind when people want to play casino games while also enjoying the related entertainment opportunities. Studies suggest that millennials prefer online casino gaming using their smartphones and other devices. According to Andrew Smith; from the New Casino Sites comparison website, “Sin City is a fantastic place not only for gambling, but also to watch standup comedy, musical shows and other forms of entertainment which you simply can’t get by playing at online casino sites” —  The gem in the Nevada desert is definitely a must-see place for those who visit the US and have a keen eye for casinos.

The Times Square in Manhattan is the most popular attraction in this country, but Las Vegas comes second, which is a remarkable achievement. There are more than 100 casinos, including some of the best-known and most iconic locations. MGM Grand Las Vegas, the Bellagio, the Venetian and many more instinctively appeal to those who want to combine excellence with luxury. Cheap accommodation and outstanding conditions provide a strong incentive for people to book a hotel room for many days.

Compared to Atlantic City and Reno, Las Vegas is far more popular not only with foreigners but also Americans. The entertainment shows on the strip act as a magnet for players whenever they want to take a break from gambling. It is also one of the few cities in the US where land-based gambling is still immensely popular. Overall, brick-and-mortar casinos have lost the race with their online counterparts and most of the gamblers now prefer to play online.

Macau is the new gambling capital of the world

The reason Las Vegas continues to attract more visitors is that it provides much more than gambling. When it comes only to the amounts wagered and the revenue generated from gambling, Macau occupies the first place on the list. Gambling is prohibited in China, but Macau is the exception, and it attracts local players, as well as gamblers from neighboring countries. Since 1999, it enjoyed a special treatment and it benefited from the attention of the lawmakers who wanted to create a secure gambling environment.

Compared to Las Vegas, Macau focuses mainly on high-rollers, and these represent the main source of revenue. The exclusive table games and poker rooms attract millionaires and billionaires from all over the world, China included. Tourists represent a significant percentage of those who choose to try their luck in these land-based casinos. The attractions surrounding these exotic establishments are nothing to frown upon, yet they pale in comparison to what Las Vegas has to offer.

Taxation is also lower here, which is extremely important for high rollers who gamble huge amounts. They will still have to pay their fair share, so the government continues to benefit from legalizing and regulating gambling here. At the end of the day, everyone benefits, and Macau has become an important city on the map of international gambling. It overtook Las Vegas a few years ago and shows no signs of slowing down so it won't be replaced as the gambling capital of the world anytime soon.
