it's always sunny in philadelphia for singles

by Dana Hudson

Although Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in the entire country, there are plenty of good things in the city of brotherly love for the young and single. Anyone looking for love in Philly has a good chance of finding a like-minded partner, as Sperling's BestPlaces reports that 36% of the Philadelphia population is available and ready to meet and mingle, higher than all but 15 other cities in the nation. What aspects of Philadelphia stand out for those who have just graduated from college or begun a career and are looking for relationships?

The Wine School

Who doesn't love mixing dates with good drinks? If you're over 21, Philadelphia's culture of good beer and wine has plenty to offer those who enjoy the spirits scene. At the Wine School of Philadelphia, oeniphiles can meet and hit it off over a shared love of a good red or white. Set up a perfect date on a food and wine pairing dinner, or take in a course on the history of wine, fermenting your own grapes and the economics of the global wine trade.

Up In The Air

Sometimes it can be hard to find a date when most stores don't carry your clothing size and most doorways require you to duck. For those on the taller side of big and tall, the Philadelphia Tower Club has great news for you: there's an entire social network devoted to meeting others who are a head above the rest. Men have to be taller than 6'1 and women have to be above 5'10 to join the Tower Club. It's not strictly a gathering for singles, but this Philadelphia club is proud of their members who have started a relationship after meeting another who walks and stands tall.

Settling In

If you want to live on the East Coast for less, Philadelphia offers much more bang for your buck. Using the Expatistan calculator, you'll see that Philadelphia is 30% less expensive than New York overall, and 45% cheaper for housing. If you can't find a significant other to move in with at the drop of a hat, ForRent has Philadelphia apartments with listings from studios to penthouses to better help you make decisions about location and pricing. Find the single lady's pad or the man-cave you want in Philadelphia and start charming the opposite sex.

Hebrew Harmony

Young Jewish singles often have to date outside their religion in the hopes of finding a match. In Philadelphia, however, a city with a 5% Jewish population, the Collaborative is a "social switchboard" for Jewish singles. With speed dating for those in their 20s and 30s, social meetings in arts and sports and cuisine, and LBGT connections for out-and-proud Jews, one is sure to find a love connection.

Social Sports

If you have no qualms about meeting the love of your life when sweating and dirty, the Philly Sport and Social Club has exercise and events aplenty for singles. Sign up for softball games during the day and come out for pub crawls by night. You can even learn the city's unofficial pastime, water pong, while meeting others with your athletic interests.
